@RyanMac - Tea party events are not only about an increase in taxes. A decrease would not be any better - and most people ORGANIZING them know this (FOX and some Republicans jumped on the bandwagon). Protest is about SPENDING, DEFICITS, INTEREST on MONEY SUPPLY, INFLATION (= increase in money supply), trade imbalances - and most of all - SECRETIVE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM. @BuelahWitch - do you know that tea parties started in 2007 (at the latest) and many of the original energy behind it ALSO attended the 'other' Convention during the RNC? They celebrated a Republican candidate who was not nominated down the street from McCain. It was a pretty big turnout. No, Tea parties are not necessarily anti-Obama. He could do the right thing. By the way, Colbert Nation - if you had looked, you would have seen that there have been Tea Party events for a couple of years, completely under the Mass Media radar. And if you listened, you would know that they are not exclusively protesting 'taxation without representation'. It's generally anti-big government. I like this lady. She has lots of experience and knowledge, and really I believe she is honest. But, she doesn't understand 'boom and bust' cycles and their cause. They have not occurred every 15 years - they DO occur when there is a central bank, and in cases where there were regional banks excessively creating credit (which is fraud). Because the US has fractional reserve banking and fiat currency, we have piles of regulations to keep these volatile, unstable and immoral practices off the ground. ... more

Yes, we will be better off with regulation. It was already codified in the Constitution - commodity money! Also, fraud is illegal. So, that is safeguarding for people who want to use banks without learning finance. Sound crazy? Well, fractional reserve banking is fraud. Regulations make this legal, and since it is 'allowing' inherently insolvent banks to earn interest on money they didn't have to give in the first place, we have all sorts of derivatives to mitigate risk. Rights - really there are only a few, and each individual citizen has them. They are general rights, however, not so specific. Our rights are not granted by the government, so there is no need to specify them. Jon, you're right about all the things the Bush administration did. Notice how Obama is not turning any of it back. There is no prosecution of any of them. Pentagon people have not been replaced.
