The most mind blowing thing about this episode? As loud, vehement, somewhat incoherent as O'Reilly was... he still makes more sense and is slightly more consistent then any of the other conservative politicians/pundits I've seen... which was certainly not my impression 3-4 years ago... the changes that conservatives have gone through in the last couple of years have been immense. Erm... you are aware that this is a comedy show... gays in what has been traditionally seen as a symbol of heterosexuality and masculinity has slightly more comedic potential then blatant human rights abuses. You want more on those depressing topics? I suggest checking the traditional news networks. Yes... he should have mindlessly defended bad decisions like the partisan sheep on both sides of the political isle... because that's who he is. The tax system is also a bit different in thous countries. While Serbia, Slovakia and Albania certainly do not have a higher standard of living then the US, most of the other top 10 do and are indeed European. The income gap is smaller in thous countries because more of the income is taxed for the rich and the state puts that income to use in education and healthcare so everyone profits. I don't mean to be a dipshit here... but I'll probably come off as one: when the person he's interviewing is interesting, Jon tends to do decent interviews (nothing to write home about usually but decent). On rare occasions he'll do a outstanding interview.... but actors... meh... they really aren't interesting people usually. While Hathaway, like most actors, seems like a perfectly nice person, she certainly doesn't seem interesting. Pausing at 03:23 you can see the list of top ranked countries: Sweden, Norway, Austria, Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Malta, Serbia, Slovakia, Albania, Finland, Germany... while Serbia, Slovakia and Albania may qualify as low income countries the others, if you look at a list of countries by GDP, are medium to high ranking countries. Capitalism is inherently based on greed. Unfortunately it's the the best available economic system given the "human condition". Even the best of us are at our core inherently greedy creatures... it's natural and when kept in check it's healthy for the species. The input from you guys coincides with what I was thinking. I'm well aware of the correlation between religious conviction and party preference, and it's understandable to a certain degree... but not to such a absurd degree that it would give someone like McCain 45.7% (and even more for Bush) of the total vote... to elaborate... the top 10% is a given... it's in their best interest to vote Republican and it's understandable that they do so. This show ******* blew my mind... as a 24 year old American citizen living in Germany (Munich) and working while going to college here I earn 1000 euros/month (after taxes) for 20 hours of work per week (1/2 norm). That's about 17000 dollars/year...as a bloody intern. The disparity between the rich and the poor in the US, if what Jon is saying is accurate, is bloody inhuman. Outstanding comeback after a week off. One of my favorite episodes by far. People complaining about Jon criticizing the intervention need to look at the episode again and realize that the point of his satire was not to criticize the intervention itself. As a matter of fact Jon always encouraged the support of people fighting for freedom (as per the moment of Zen and "freedom package" segment). Outstanding interview. Regardless of whether you agree with the war or not you have to appreciate the fact that those who serve in it go through a horrible ordeal (if by their own choice or not is a different discussion). In the end that is worth respecting and knowing about. Very glad Stephen tempered down his usual self. I usually try to abstain from replying to such idiotic comments but I'll make a exception in this case. 1. Jon was not "taking up for her" (which in the context I'm assuming means defending/supporting her). He was actually pointing out that what she said was very irresponsible/serious and so other journalists should be paying more attention to the statement and less to who gets her chair. 2. It is true that the oil spill is something that should be taken seriously however you have to cut the Daily Show some slack. A lot of the material used by the show is serious yet treated lightly for the purpose of comedy (war, economic depression, religion etc) and since you mention in your post that you watch the show I'm assuming you find at least parts of that material on the other serious situations entertaining/funny. My absolute favorite stand-up comedian appears on my favorite comedy show... amazing episode, made my day. Robin is as vivid and funny as ever and the material for the rest of the episode was top notch as well. For anyone who enjoys stand up i whole heartedly recommend Robins "Live on Broadway" appearance (my personal favorite, you can find it on youtube by searching "Live on Broadway") as well as his new show (Weapons of self destruction). The episode was great. The interview was enjoyable however I found it to be fairly disjointed. It seemed like they just weren't able to stick to a topic. One would start arguing and the other would pickup on some comment made half way through and counter/deliver his opinion on only that instead of the larger topic at hand. Both Jon and Dobbs are obviously inteligent men with differences of opinion, I wish they had debated a bit more instead of delivering paralel opinions on the subjects. Although I know that Jon sometimes himself hides behind the idea that this show is a comedy program I think that this episode (and a few others like it) are proof positive that it has become so much more then that. It tackles the stupidity of all issues and it usually does it the way any reasonable person would, on the merits of the argument not on the basis of made up ********. Love him, hate him, agree, disagree, trust, don't trust... one thing you have to give Mr. Clinton... he at least looks like he knows what he is talking about. To me, Obama often sounds to overtly inspirational and false, Bush always sounded just plain retarded and uninformed. Mr Clinton at least talks in a factual, level tone that any intelligent person can understand and follow easily.
